Silverlight enabled developers to build both desktop and web applications. Right now, Silverlight is only supported on Internet Explorer 11. This means that all NPAPI plugins are blocked from running in Chrome from that month onwards. Whitelisted plugins are Silverlight, Unity, Google Earth, Java, Google Talk and Facebook Video. Even though Silverlight is still supported by Microsoft, active development was stopped several years ago. January 2015 - Google removes the whitelist which allows popular plugins to be run currently in the browser. Tested on netflix and the timewarner cable tv app. Microsoft Silverlight will reach the end of support on October 12, 2021. Look for useragent in firefox addons.įrom what I gather, pipelight runs silverlight using wine in the background somehow but this not only works, it works better than silverlight does in Windows and installs as a plugin to your linux browser (not a wine workaround). This will install silverlight in firefox and not in google chrome or chromium as chrome no longer uses those types of plugins.įinally, some apps may check if you are using windows and all you need to do is use a useragent switcher to circumvent this issue. Sudo pipelight-plugin -create-mozilla-plugins Sudo apt-get install -install-recommends pipelight-multi sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipelight/stable Open a terminal and type the following commands one by one. CLOSE FIREFOX before running these commands !!!
